This light is located on Monhegan Island at the southern approach to Muscongus Bay, nearest to the town of Monhegan. The lighthouse is 178 feet above sea level, making it the second-highest lighthouse in Maine. Monhegan Island has a long history as an artists’ colony, and the lighthouse keeper’s house has been converted into an art museum that is open late June through September. The light tower is open for tours twice a week, weather permitting. Details on ferries to Monhegan Island are available at monheganwelcome.com/get-here.
