Winter Harbor Light is located on Mark Island near Winter Harbor. The lighthouse is not accessible to the public but can be seen distantly from Schoodic Peninsula in Acadia National Park or by boat cruises in the area. Before automation, this light was considered to be a good family light station and only housed nine families in a 76-year span. In 1933 the light was discontinued. Maine author Bernice Richmond lived there and in the 1940s, published two books set at the lighthouse.
